AJ would say he has been a writer & poet all his life. He spends his days with pen and paper attempting to discover his nothings to create everything from. “A poem should not say but be.” Is a quote he carries with him as a motto. One of his favorite quotes he has penned is, “if a picture is worth a thousand words each poem should be worth a thousand pictures.” The description of writing and painting has to be the same process is the goal he offers to students in his create it writing classes. Creating a formidable follow through with every day is his answer to anyone pouting writers block or being stuck in pause while writing. His ninth book published is “Steel Black” by Not Just Alphabets with the name AJ Houston as author. It is a privilege and a goal to publish enough books to be considered the author of his personal library, which would mean he has to publish at least 5 books a year. May we all be better stewards of the gifts we’ve been blessed with and may writing free your mind to dream bigger as you unlimit yourself.

She’s operated as a poet & organizer in Atlanta for 20 plus years. A clock holder, score keeper, MC, bout manager, tournament director & PSI secretary, with a streak of attending every big event from 2004-2017, (except for one), Karen loved slam poetry. She writes about love, grief, loss, and experiences the late Gabrielle Bouliane described as “all of this is true, none of this is real.” She's famous for hugs & being a loud cheerleader because life is short. @kgarrab on Instagram. Punk is her gender, Q is their sexuality, answering to she/they pronouns. She came out in DC & the Riot Grrl era, so DIY & Fugazi inform her foundation. Reach out, ask questions.

Virginia native and Arkansas resident, Kerry Kinlaw, is a creative artist, poet, and author, who has been writing/performing poetry for almost two years. Kinlaw was introduced to poetry in April of 2019, at Stonington Institute, a cooccurring Rehab Clinic. He discovered the art form by chance, eventually propelling him to write his own book entitled, Greater is He. Being a victim of child abuse, and also developing an addiction for alcohol, Kinlaw was admitted to the institution to restructure, readjust, and reposition himself in his own life. The Masked Poet Kinlaw’s pseudonym, “Masked Poet,” was initially inspired by the poem, “Wear the Mask,” by African American poet, Paul Laurence Dunbar. Kinlaw’s first published book, Greater is He, spawns from the idea that “we always think we aren’t good enough,” says Kinlaw. The title of Kinlaw’s piece of poetic work truly speaks to the inner workings of his childhood trauma, all while continuing to carry that pain through adulthood. After performing for the first time at the illustrious Busboys and Poets artist venue, the Masked Poet has decided to also move into more live spoken word performances at prestigious venues.

Jennifer K. Yancey, a.k.a. The Poet RoseGold, hails from “the real Gotham City” – a Bronx, New York native who discovered Poetry at 15 and began using it as a more creative way of communicating with the world. Coupled with her 20-year career as an Army photojournalist, Poet RoseGold knew how to capture the human condition in real time through her lens and record its consciousness with her pen. She jokingly refers to her work as “Incendiary Redbone Poetry,” highlighting the injustices tarnishing the American landscape; spirituality; intimacy; self-love/Black love; mental health; and (past) life in the military. Poet RoseGold’s voice has crossed time zones virtually and in-person, through podcasts and numerous community engagements, including an appearance on the “red-dot stage” at TEDx Colorado Springs, in 2019. Poet RoseGold is also a member of TESORO – a newly-formed organization whose purpose is to hold safe space internationally for women “word-warriors” to “do their work.” Poet RoseGold’s work has been featured in several anthologies: Between a Laugh and a Tear (1991); Love Letters to Gaia (2021); The Cuddy Family Foundation For Veterans Poetry Journal Volume One and The Cuddy Family Foundation For Veterans Poetry Journal Volume Two (2021); Poet Speak Magazine, issue #40 (2021); Rising Voices: Poems Toward A Social Justice Revolution (2022); These Fought in Any Case: A Collection of Poems and Short Stories by Veterans (2022); and I Can’t Breathe, vol. 2 (2022). She has since used this passion in many readings/performances, both online and in-person, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It was during this time of uncertainty, that she found the power in her voice to speak her words. Her belief in poetry being therapy and the feedback from peers motivated her to begin composing her first collection, Introspectrum, ( which is available for purchase now) so that she can not only empower her own life, but the lives of others around the world. With love and empowerment as a focus topic, her work is tailored to resonate with those who have struggled in life with heartbreak, loss, self-empowerment and self worth.
R.Sen writes for her readers to find healing, strength, hope, and ultimately, self love by guiding them with poetry through her own personal journey and views.
