Meet the 2021 Winter Debut Poets!

Ashley is a poet and spoken word artist, originally born in Pittsburgh but calls herself a Richmond native. She first started writing after the passing of her mother in order to express herself creatively. She hopes to heal with her poetry and inspire others to get creative and tell their story. Her topics range from domestic violence, love and relationships, suicide and self love.

Emily Cordes is an NYC-based actress, writer, and arts marketer/fundraiser. She hails from Pittsburgh, PA and is a graduate of Smith College and Columbia University. She has worked for and co-produced shows with the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, and frequents their Online Open Mics. Generalissimo Bryan Franco lives in Brunswick, Maine USA . He likes writing poetry and reading it to anyone who’ll listen. He has been writing poetry since the mid-1990’s. 

He was a member of the Portland Maine Rhythmic Cypher slam team that competed in the 2014 National Poetry Slam in Oakland, California. He is also a painter, sculptor, gardener, and culinary genius.

Born & raised in Massachusetts, JiJi started writing poetry in 2020 as a New Year's Resolution: try art that made her feel uncomfortable & challenge herself. Poetry has brought her comfort during quarantine & the passing of her father. She writes about love, finding herself, & her journey through grief. She hopes that her poetry connects with others & helps them feel less alone, as they journey through grief.

Miro is a 29-year-old poet living in Staten Island, NYC with a background in theater, gender studies & environmental sustainability. She has been published three times and is the lead editor of the "Love Letters to Gaia" anthology, which has sold nearly 200 copies since its release in April 2021. Miro is inspired by nature & the plot twists of life.

Nicholas Paleologos is a poet, host, cosplayer, & former college radio host who lives in New Jersey. He is a graduate of Bloomfield College (Broadcast Journalism). He has worked on & contributed to 3 anthologies: Quaranzine, I Can’t Breathe, & Love Letters to Gaia. Nick’s main influence for his poetry comes from the music side. He treats his performances as shows for all to enjoy.

Pam lives North Carolina w/ her wife & fur babies. She discovered the world of poetry in 12th grade AP English. Poetry was her way of coping with grief & survivor's guilt, manages her bipolar disorder. Topics include depression, anxiety, suicide, hopelessness & healing. Poetry allows her to express herself in a way that she cannot verbally. It has become a beacon in a depth of darkness & she hopes it will help others with their own mental health struggles.

Tori is a poet from Miami, Florida. She has received degrees in English from Florida State University (2018) & Columbia University (2021). She currently lives in New York City pursuing journalism & poetry. Her love of writing began with a love of reading the "Harry Potter" series at the age of 6. Since then, she has explored songwriting, short & long fiction, non-fiction, poetry & academic writing.

Phillip Hayes Boykin was born in Seaside, California & introduced to poetry in 7th grade English. He went to open mics & church events in high school as a way to cope w/ the death of his grandmother & he got back to what helped him out the most which was poetry. He gathered more knowledge of other arts like acting, dancing, and martial arts & using the expertise he gained to fuel his writing. His storytelling & rhyme-scheme poetry is a fan favorite in the poetry community.
